Thanks for the ray of optimism and the link to the other voice of reason. With regards to the two choices you offer, I go with the latter, due to the low level of education in this country. The Regressives' strategy of keep the electorate stupid is working exactly as they had hoped.
It's hard getting past the PTSD of it all, especially when we see what's coming. But it's important not to feel hopeless, and to realize that there are tools to be used and resources that can help the Republic withstand the frontal assault it's about to experience. One of my favorite parts of the article, is the notion that tens of thousands of fired civil servants will bring a class-action lawsuit en masse. The reason that this strategy is going to work so well is that it is impossible for these fuck ups NOT to break the law. They're doing it already, and they're not even in office yet. They still haven't signed the ethics agreements, and don't intend to.
A stupid electorate is the goal of any authoritarian government.
AGREE on all you write! Day after the results came in, I was in deep despair na purged at least 50 people from my Facebook pages. The next day I woke up, I was energized and ready to fight.
A moment that gave me great joy was when it was revealed that Jesse Waters mother did not want him at her Thanksgiving table. And HE was the one who mentioned it on the air. It really is hard figuring out how to deal with Trump voters. It was so different in the past, where it was about policy issues, but most folks seemed to be rowing the boat in the same direction. Now you have to look at people who support Donald Trump, and if you love them, then you have to rationalize it somehow. If you're genuine friends, same thing. But if it's a casual acquaintance, fuck em'.
What I decided to do was to rejoin the ACLU. They do good work in the courtroom -- fighting the legal fights to save democracy.
Based on your suggestion, I rejoined today. Thank you
Great! Thank you for doing that.
Marcie, EXCELLENT suggestion. I have been in the past, be need to renew. Thanks.
